Most supermarket honeys are blended and pasteurised for uniformity. Ballina Honey is 100% raw and single-origin, harvested and bottled locally to preserve natural enzymes, pollen and antioxidants. The difference is in the depth of flavour and purity- a genuine product of Northern NSW beekeeping.
Raw honey has been cold extracted and not filtered too fine. This means the honey is never heated above 45C and retains the goodness of beneficial enzymes and local pollen grains. Raw honey should not be given to babies under one year old; new babies have not yet developed the digestion system to handle all the components that make raw honey great for someone older.
Nothing added, nothing diluted. Our jars are 100% Australian honey-full stop.
Regular “table honey” is often heated and heavily filtered for a uniform look. Our raw honey stays closer to the hive- richer aroma, natural crystals over time, and full character from local blooms.
All honey will crystallise over time. Some floral sources will crystallise before the honey even leaves the hive, others will stay liquid for decades. This has no effect on the edibility! As a bonus it will no longer fall off your toast. If you would like your honey to stay liquid, keep it somewhere warm. Bees will keep honey at around 35C, just right for long term storage.
Sealed and stored well, honey keeps for years. Moisture is the enemy- if water gets in, it can ferment. Keep lids tight and spoons dry.
Yes - in small amounts, raw honey is generally safe for most adult dogs. It can offer natural enzymes, antioxidants and trace vitamins, and some owners use it to soothe allergies or sore throats.
However, honey is high in natural sugars, so keep servings minimal (a lick or half-teaspoon is plenty for a medium-sized dog). Avoid giving honey to puppies under 12 months or dogs with diabetes, weight issues, or compromised immune systems.
Always use pure raw honey (like ours) – never processed or flavoured varieties – and check with your vet if your dog has dietary sensitivities or medical conditions.
Gentle warmth is fine for pouring; prolonged high heat can dull flavour and enzyme activity. Think “warm bath,” not “boil.”
The bees decide that! Each season’s honey reflects what’s flowering- sometimes light and buttery, sometimes deep and bold.
Manuka comes from Leptospermum species; some batches contain higher methylglyoxal (MGO). Higher numbers mean higher measured activity- not necessarily better for toast! Just different.

Not usually but feel free to email your resume through. If you have solid beekeeping experience elsewhere give us a ring, we would love to have a chat over lunch about your experiences.
Glucose naturally forms crystals. Cooler weather or certain florals (e.g., canola) speed it up. Crystallisation is a quality sign, not a fault- just proof nothing’s been overheated or over-filtered.
Some folks swear by it, evidence is bit mixed! We say: buy local for flavour, freshness and to support our beekeepers- any allergy benefit is a bonus.
They burn longer and cleaner than soy or paraffin wax candles, and have a warm natural honey scent straight from the hive.
Our candles don't contain fragrances or dyes, just pure beeswax and cotton wicks- no synthetic scents or additives.
We use recyclable glass jars and FSC-certified paper labels. Our hives are managed ethically, with minimal intervention and strong seasonal forage diversity to support bee health. So- yep! :)
